The world’s first rigorous randomised controlled trial demonstrating the effectiveness of air purifiers in reducing school absences
Aerius technology has also been validated by an independent study conducted by the Politecnico di Milano and the CMCC (Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change) in schools in Milan. During 2023-2024 the study involved 2,050 children in 95 classrooms in five primary schools in Milan. Classes were randomly divided: half with air purifiers, half without. The classrooms were monitored in real time with environmental sensors connected to attendance records. After a year of collecting data it showed the following :
- Fewer respiratory and allergic symptoms in children
- -12.5% reduction in absences due to illness
- -32% reduction of airborne microparticles in classrooms (PM2.5)
- 860% ROI comparing the cost of Aerius technology over 10 years with the economic benefit derived from the reduction in sick leave observed in the study.
